Those states whose population growth registered above the nationwide average over this period realized an increase in their nationwide share of population. Likewise, those states whose population growth registered below the nationwide average experienced a decline in their relative share of population nationwide.
Nationwide Snippets:
  • Over 2000-2016 population grew in all 51 U.S. states.
  • Population growth in twenty-three states outpaced the nationwide average (14.96%), while growth in twenty-eight states trailed.
  • At the extremes of the distribution, Nevada posted the highest growth of population (43.93%), while Michigan placed last by logging a 0.65% gain.
