Those states whose real personal income growth registered above the nationwide average over this period realized an increase in their nationwide share of real personal income. Likewise, those states whose real personal income growth registered below the nationwide average experienced a decline in their relative share of real personal income nationwide.
Nationwide Snippets:
  • Over 2000-2017 real personal income grew in all 51 U.S. states.
  • Real personal income growth in twenty-six states outpaced the nationwide average (42.66%), while growth in twenty-five states trailed.
  • At the extremes of the distribution, Utah posted the highest growth of real personal income (83.15%), while Michigan placed last by logging a 11.54% gain.
